Who gets to determine when the old ends and the new begins?
Fresh starts thanks to the calendar they happen every year —just set your watch to January, our reward for surviving the holiday season is a new year. Bringing on the great tradition of new years resolutions, put your past behind you and start over. It’s hard to resist the chance of a new beginning, a chance to put the problems of last year to bed.
Who gets to determine when the old ends and the new begins? It’s not on the calendar, it’s not a birthday, it’s not a new year, it’s an event —big or small, something that changes us, ideally it gives us hope, a new way of living and looking at the world, letting go of old habits, old memories. What's important is that we never stop believing we can have a new beginning, but it's also important to remember amid all the crap are a few things really worth holding on to.

...at the holidays?
It's an urban myth that suicide rates spike at the holidays. Turns out they actually go down. Experts think it's because people are less inclined to off themselves when surrounded by family. Ironically, that same family togetherness is thought to be the reason that depression rates actually do spike at the holidays.
There's an old proverb that says you can't choose your family. You take what the fates hand you. And like them or not, love them or not, understand them or not, you cope. Then there's the school of thought that says the family you're born into is simply a starting point. They feed you, and clothe you, and take care of you until you're ready to go out into the world and find your tribe.

Expectations
We all think we’re going to be great and we feel a little bit robbed when our expectations aren’t met. But sometimes our expectations sell us short. Sometimes the expected simply pales in comparison to the unexpected. You got to wonder why we cling to our expectations, because the expected is just what keeps us steady. Standing. Still. The expected's just the beginning, the unexpected is what changes our lives.

Men, Women
Girls talk to each other like men talk to each other. BUT girls have an eye for detail.
PS: God gave men both a penis and a brain but unfortunately not enough blood supply to run both at the same time.

I figured it out finally
People who interfered in your life always did it for your own good and i figured it out finally that what they wanted was for you to conform completely and never differ from some accepted surface standard and then dissipate the way traveling salesmen would at a convention in every stupid and boring way there was. They knew nothing of our pleasures nor how much fun it was to be damned to ourselves and ever would know nor could know. Our pleasures, which were those of being in love, were as simple and still as mysterious and complicated as a simple mathematical formula that can mean all happiness or can mean the end of the world.

we've all done something we're ashamed of
We've all done something in our lives we're ashamed of. Some of us have fallen for the wrong man. Some have let go of the right woman. There are those who have humiliated their parents. And those who have failed their children Yes, we've all made mistakes that diminish us and those we love. But there is redemption if we try to learn from those mistakes and grow.
Cinderella
She had never thought of herself as Cinderella, but then one day... a prince showed up, and she realized her life had become a fairy tale. And since her prince had welcomed her into his castle, she felt the least she could do was thank him...again...and again...and again. The next morning, however, she discovered castles...don't run themselves.

More is Better
More tequila, more love, more anything. More is better.
There's something to be said about a glass half full. About knowing when to say when. I think it's a floating line. A barometer of need and desire. It's entirely up to the individual. And depends on what's being poured. Sometimes all we want is a taste. Other times there's no such thing as enough, the glass is bottomless. And all we want, is more.

Telling You A Secret
One thing is certain, whatever it is we're trying to hide... we're never ready for that moment when the truth gets naked. That's the problem with secrets – like misery, they love company. They pile up and up until you don't have room for anything else, until you're so full of secrets you feel like you're going to burst.
The thing people forget is how good it can feel when you finally set secrets free. Whether good or bad, at least they're out in the open, like it or not. And once your secrets are out in the open, you don't have to hide behind them anymore. The problem with secrets is even when you think you're in control, you're not.

I don't want to think about it. I don't want to even hear it. But I can't ignore it. Something must have happened. Something was there. I don't have the courage to bring it up and talk about it.

Yes, biology sucks sometimes
Biology determines much of the way we live. From the moment we're born we know how to breathe and eat. As we grow older, new instincts kick in. We become territorial, we seek shelter… And most important of all, we reproduce. Sometimes biology can turn on us though. Yeah, biology sucks sometimes.
Biology says that we are who we are from birth. That our DNA is set in stone. Unchangeable. Our DNA doesn't account for all of us though. Life changes us. We develop new trades. Become less territorial. We stop competing. We learn from our mistakes. We face our greatest fears. For better or worse. We find ways to change our biology. The risk, of course is that we can change to much, to the point we don't recognize ourselves. Finding a way back can be difficult. There is no compass, no map. We just have to close our eyes, take a step and hope to God we'll get there.

Keep Moving Forward
The trick is to keep moving forward, to let go of the fear and the regret that slow us down and keep us from enjoying a journey that will be over too soon. Yes, there will be unexpected bends in the road, shocking surprises we didn't see coming... but that's really the point, don't you think?
11.16.2011
Favors
Now and then, we all need a little help, so we ask for small favors. But it's always best to be wary of those eager to come to our rescue. Because even the smallest of favors carries a price tag. Yes, everyone has an agenda. No matter what they may tell us. And in those rare instances where there is no ulterior motive we're so taken aback that we may fail to recognize the truth that a loving friend has just done us an enormous favor...
11.13.2011
Heroes
We all honor heroes for different reasons , sometimes for their daring, sometimes for their bravery, sometimes for their goodness. But, mostly, we honor heroes because, at one point or another, we all dream of being rescued. Of course, if the right hero doesn't come along, sometimes we just have to rescue ourselves.

Forgive and Forget
Forgive and forget. That's what they say. It's good advice, but it's not very practical. When someone hurts us, we want to hurt them back. When someone wrongs us, we want to be right. Without forgiveness old scores never settle. Old wounds never heal, and the most we can hope for is that someday we'll be lucky enough to forget.
Pain
Pain, it comes in all forms. The small twinge, a bit of soreness, the random pain, the normal pains that we live with everyday. Then there's the kind of pain you can't ignore. A level of pain so great that it blocks out everything else, makes the rest of your world fade away until all we can think about is how much we hurt. How we manage our pain is up to us. Pain. We anaesthetize, ride it out, embrace it, ignore it... and for some of us, the best way to manage pain is to just push through it.
Pain, you just have to ride it out, hope it goes away on its own, hope the wound that caused it heals. There are no solutions, no easy answers. You just breathe deep and wait for it to subside. Most of the time pain can be managed, but sometimes the pain gets you when you least expect it, hits way below the belt and doesn't let up. Pain, you just have to fight through, because the truth is you can't outrun it, and life always makes more.

Hey Boys!
Whatever you give a woman, she's going to multiply. If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby. If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart. she multiples and enlarges what is given to her. So.........if you give her any crap, you will receive a ton of shit.

Hey girls!
He's not perfect. You aren't either, and the two fo you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. Hei sn't going to quote poetry, he's not thinking about you every moment, but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break. Don't hurt him, don't change him, and don't expect more than he can give. Don't analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he's not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don't exist, but there's always one guy that is perfect for you.

I am Guilty...
Your 20s and early 30s are supposed to be packed with fun relationships, exciting experiences, and once in a lifetime opportunities. And for the most part, they will be. But new job pressures and the negative effects of social media can send your self esteem plummeting. Facebook...twitter feeds...all these can trigger the confidence crash when there's nothing good to report or, worse, a humiliating photo or less than flattering piece of news about your job or relationship status goes public. On top of that, comparing yourself to others, one of the main hobbies of Facebook users everywhere, magnifies mild feelings of inadequacy into raging self-doubt.

I dont have Discretionary Income
Today I got 20 dollars. 20 dollars is not a lot but I couldn't decide what to do with the 20 dollars. My options:
1. Put 20 dollars worth of gas
2. 10 dollars on food, 10 dollars on gas
3. 20 dollars on food (grocery shopping)
4. save it and use it to spend on art tools.
This is what happens when you don't have discretionary income. Don't feel sad for me. Yes, I am poor right now. I'm not complaining. I'm understanding the situation and trying to work with it, carefully.
Plan: not spend money at all. Worry:money for gas. Need new windshield wipers. Need a car wash. Need zinc.
Solution: drive less, go out less, eat less
Guess i won't have a social life for a while!

Should have kicked his ass so hard!
We all remember the bed time stories of our childhoods. The shoe fits Cinderella, the frog turns into a prince, sleeping beauty is awakened with a kiss. Once upon a time and then they lived happily ever after. Fairy tales, the stuff of dreams. The problem is, fairy tales don't come true. It's the other stories, the ones that begin with dark and stormy nights and end in the unspeakable. It's the nightmares that always seem to become reality. - The person that invented the phrase "Happily ever after" should have his ass kicked, so hard!!
Once upon a time, happier ever after. The stories we tell are the stuff of dreams. Fairy tales don't come true. Reality is much stormier. Much murkier. Much scarier. Reality it’s so much more interesting than living happily ever after.

Not the way i imagined it
When something begins, you generally have no idea how it’s going to end. The house you’re going to sell becomes your home, the roommates you were forced to take in become your family and the one night stand you were determined to forget becomes the love of your life.
We spend our whole lives worrying about the future, planning for the future, trying to predict the future, as if figuring it out will cushion the blow. But the future is always changing. The future is the home of our deepest fears and wildest hopes. But one thing is certain when it finally reveals itself. The future is never the way we imagined it.

how much is too much?
When you were a kid, it was Halloween candy. You hid it from your parents and you ate it until you got sick. In college, it was the heavy combo of youth, tequila and well, you know. Too much of anything, even love, is not always a good thing. How do you know when how much is too much? Too much too soon. Too much information. Too much fun. Too much love. Too much to ask... And when is it all just too much to bear?
INTIMACY~
I wish there were a rulebook for intimacy. Some kind of guide to tell you when you've crossed the line. It would be nice if you could see it coming, and I don't know how you fit it on a map. You take it where you can get it, and keep it as long as you can. And as for rules, maybe there are none. Maybe the rules of intimacy are something you have to define for yourself.

The worst type of crying
is when your lips start to shake and tears build up quickly and fall fast. You're bent over or crouched trying to suck it and not make any noise but it hurts too much to hold it in soy ou let out a yelp and a cry then comes the loss of breath which sucks because not only your'e crying out loud but you think you sound dumb for not breathing too.
It's just a mess.

Can anyone be friends again after a break up?
"can we still be friends?" Can anyone ever truly be friends again after a break up? You give a person your everything. In turn, they learn everything about you, every insignificant fact. But suddenly they disappear. They aren't yours anymore and you are somehow supposed to talk to them. There will be awkward pauses where the "i love you" used to go and the colorful conversations will become dull and pianful. And even if years pass, you still won't talk normally because talking ot them at all will remind you why you fell in love with them in the first place.
9.25.2011
your First love
Maybe your first love is the one that sticks with you because it's the only person who will ever receive all of you. After that, you learn better. But, most of all, no matter what, a piece of you forever remains left behind in the heart of the one you loved, a piece no future lover could ever get, no matter what. That piece holds innocence, the believe that love really can last forever. It holds friendship and pain, trial and error, that one kiss you'll never forget, and that night under the stars you can never get back. It holds youth and everything you thought love would be, everything that was proven wrong.
pick and choose
At the end of the day, when it comes down to it, all we really want is to be close to somebody. So this thing where we all keep our distance and pretend not to care about each other, it's usually a load of bull. So we pick and choose who we want to remain close to, and once we've chosen those people, we tend to stick close by. No matter how much we hurt them. The people that are still with you at the end of the day, those are the ones worth keeping. And sure, sometimes close can be too close. But sometimes, that invasion of personal space, it can be exactly what you need.

Good guys v. Bad guys
It's not always that easy to distinguish between the good guys and the bad guys. Sinners can surprise you and the same is true for saints. Why do we try to define people as simply good or simply evil? Because no one wants to admit that compassion and cruelty can exist side-by-side in one heart. And that anyone is capable of anything.
Good guys wear white hats and bad guys wear black. This is how children distinguish between good and evil. But they soon learn that bad guys always don't look so bad. And sometimes they seem downright friendly. That is until you get to know them a little bit better.

smile ,be cheerful, and put on a happy face
It's a common belief that positive thinking leads to a happier healthier life. As children we are told to smile, be cheerful, and put on a happy face. As adults we are told to look on the bright side, to make lemonade, and see glasses as half full. Sometimes reality can get in the way of our ability to act the happy part though. Your health can fail, boyfriends can cheat, friends can disappoint. It's in these moments, when you just want to get real, drop the act, and be your true scared unhappy self.
Ask most people what they want out of life and the answer is simple - to be happy. Maybe it's this expectation though of wanting to be happy that just keeps us from ever getting there. Maybe the more we try to will ourselves to states of bliss, the more confused we get - to the point where we don't recognize ourselves. Instead we just keep smiling - trying to be the happy people we wish we were. Until it eventually hits us, it's been there all along. Not in our dreams or our hopes but in the known, the comfortable, the familiar.

Beginning
People are really romantic about the beginnings of things. Fresh start, clean slate, a world of possibility. But no matter what new adventure you're embarking on, you're still you. You bring you into every new beginning in your life. So how different can it possibly be?
It's all anybody wants, right? Clean slate, a new beginning. Like that's gonna be any easier. Ask the guy pushing the boulder up the hill. Nothing is easy about starting over. Nothing at all.

At the end of the day, there are some things you just can't help but talk about. Some things we just don't want to hear, and some things we say because we can't be silent any longer. Some things are more than what you say, they're what you do. Some things you say cause there's no other choice. Some things you keep to yourself. And not too often, but every now and then, some things simply speak for themselves

$400.00
I threw away all my handbags because they are old, ripping apart, embarrassing to wear it out on public. Did not know it was that bad until I noticed my friend look at my bag and gave it a dirty look, then really encouraged me to throw it away and buy a new handbag/purse. As of now, I do not have a purse. I marched into a department store and found tons and tons and tons of beautiful handbags! Of course I find out that in order to have a nice, decent BEAUTIFUL looking purse, it will cost you AT LEAST $200. ANd then I saw it. It was...the most Beautiful thing i have ever seen. I was determined to buy it. Heck with money, I don't care! I WANT IT AND I NEED IT! I can use my credit card...pshhh..i'll pay it off. So I look at the price...and of course it is almost $400. Plus tax over $400. So then I drop it and leave with my head down. I was so determined to buy it even if it was $200. Why is it that the one you want has to be the one you can never afford?? And since i'm not working, buying that purse would be incredibly stupid. But i was THIS CLOSE...THIS CLOSE to buying that purse.
No confrontation
Someone asked me once how I got to the spot where I actually took a photograph. I found that I followed noises, clouds, the winds, smells – but most of all it was the light that guided me. I don’t force myself on the environment, I let it manipulate me. There’s no confrontation with nature because I give in to it. I let myself be seduced completely

Looking Up
To be honest, there are days when I think i have chosen the wrong profession. But when I am surrounded by other aspiring photographers, I see hope.
Not a day goes by thinking what is in store for my future. Where will I be in 3 years? 5 years? 7 years?

Good fathers
The world is filled with good fathers. How do we recognize them? They are the ones who are missed so terribly, everything falls apart in their absence. They are the ones who love us, long before we even arrive. They are the ones who come looking for us, when we can't find our way home. Yes, the world is filled with good fathers. And the best are the ones who make the women in their lives feel like good mothers.

- I always said I'd be happier alone. I'd have my work, my friends - but someone in your life all the time? More trouble than it's worth. Apparently, I got over it.
- There's a reason I said I'd be happy alone. It wasn't 'cause I thought I'd be happy alone. It was because I thought if I loved someone and then it fell apart, I might not make it. It's easier to be alone. Because what if you learn that you need love and then you don't have it? What if you like it and lean on it? What if you shape your life around it and then it falls apart? Can you even survive that kind of pain? Losing love is like organ damage. It's like dying. The only difference is death ends. This? It could go on forever.

Cameras
Cameras are simple tools designed to capture images. Images that tell us more about ourselves than we realize. They remind us of the long journey we've taken. The loved ones who traveled alongside of us. Those we lost along the way. And those waiting for us on the road ahead.
Yes, cameras are tools designed to capture images. But in truth, they can capture so much more. They can uncover hidden longing of men who should no longer care. They can reveal the extraordinary secrets of the most ordinary marriages. Most amazing of all, cameras can quietly and clearly reveal to us our dreams. Dreams we didn't even know we had.

Prayer
There is a prayer intended to give strength to people faced with circumstances they don't want to accept. The power of the prayer comes from it's insight into human nature. Because so many of us rage against the hand that life has dealt us. Because so many of us are cowardly. And afraid to stand up for what is right. Because so many of us give into despair when faced with an impossible choice. The good news for those who utter these words is that God will hear you and answer your prayer. The bad news is that sometimes the answer is no.
Nothing's Changed
There comes a moment when our lives change forever. The moment we admit our weaknesses, the moment we rise to a challenge, the moment we accept a sacrifice, or let a loved one go. And sometimes the change in our lives is an answer to our prayers.

70 percent Human, 30 percent Zombie
hahaha nice. I Just ate breakfast too. gonna go to the gym soon.
HOpe your mom calls soon! if she calls like at 4, ip rob ably can't go cuz it's too late! Wow your dream was pretty crazy haha. I'm not surprised though. But speaking about dreams. Dude, i had a crazy dream last night too!! It was about zombies. So everyone became zombies and i was trying to fight them off and escape them. I was at this flower shop then i found this back door so i opened it and of course there were more zombies. But then i saw my MOM! it was sad cuz she was bitten by a zombie and so she was in the process of becoming a zombie. She was still like 70 percent human and 30 percent zombie. So she was still conscious and i was like "omg, mom i love you! don't worry!" and she said just kill me! So i had a pen (throughout the dream i was holding many pens so i can strike them with it in the head). I took a pen and struck it through her head but she didn't die! she was like " i guess my body just doesn't want to die". So i struck her again and she still didn't die! She ended up saying, " jihyun just get out of here! run!" So i ran and omg…the dream was so freaking realistic when i woke up i was like THANK GOD IT WAS A DREAM!!!!!

Forever young
There comes a point in your life when you're officially an adult. Suddenly, you're old enough to vote, drink, and engage in other adult activities. Suddenly, people expect you to be responsible, serious... a grown up. We get taller, we get older. But do we ever really grow up?
In some ways we grow up. We have families, we get married, divorced, but for the most part, we still have the same problems that we did when we were fifteen. No matter how much we grow taller, grow older, we are still forever stumbling, forever wondering, forever.. Young.

You know when you were a little kid and you believed in fairy tales? That fantasy of what your life would be – white dress, prince charming who’d carry you away to a castle on a hill. You’d lie in your bed at night and close your eyes and you had complete and utter faith. Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, prince charming –they were so close you could taste them. But eventually you grow up and one day you open your eyes and the fairy tale disappears. Most people turn to the things and people they can trust. But the thing is, it’s hard to let go of that fairy tale entirely because almost everyone has that smallest bit of hope and faith that one day they would open their eyes and it would all come true.
At the end of the day, faith is a funny thing. It turns up when you don't really expect it. Its like one day you realize that the fairy tale may be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. And its not so important, happy ever after, just that its happy right now. See once in a while, once in a blue moon, people will surprise you, and once in a while people may even take your breath away.

It is ugly beyond redemption...
It is ugly beyond redemption. Its thick neck and high shoulders that slope to the hindquarters look as if they've come from a discarded prototype for the giraffe, and its shaggy, coarse coat seems to have been patched together from the leftovers of creation. The color is a bungled mix of tan, black, yellow, grey, with the spots having none of the classy ostentation of a leopard's rosettes, they look rather like the symptoms of a skin disease, a virulent form of mange. The head is broad and too massive, with a high forehead, like that of a bear, but suffering from a receding hairline, and with ears that look ridiculously mouse-like, large and round, when they haven't been torn off in battle. The mouth is forever open and panting. The nostrils are too big. The tail is scraggly and unwagging. The gait is shambling. All the parts put together look doglike, but like no dog anyone would want as a pet.

Our animal instinct
There’s a little animal in all of us and maybe that’s something to celebrate. Our animal instinct is what makes us seek comfort, warmth, a pack to run with. We may feel caged, we may feel trapped, but still as humans we can find ways to feel free. We are each other’s keepers, we are the guardians of our own humanity and even though there’s a beast inside all of us, what sets us apart from the animals is that we can think, feel, dream and love. And against all odds, against all instinct, we evolve.

OY
What do you do when you find out something disturbing about a certain someone and you want to confront them about it but when you do, you know it is going to humiliate them, embarrass them...?

Kiss
For a kiss to be really good, you want it to mean something. You want it to be with someone you can't get out of your head, so that when your lips finally touch you feel it everywhere. A kiss so hot and so deep you never want to come up for air. You can't cheat your first kiss. Trust me, you don't want to. Cause when you find that right person for a first kiss, it's everything.
It can't rain forever
Be strong now, because things will get better. It might be stormy now, but it can't rain forever!

I love you!
If you love someone, tell him or her. Forget about the rules or fear of looking ridiculous. What is truly ridiculous is passing up on an opportunity to tell someone that your heart is invested in him or her.
